COMPANY

Switzerland based Life Science company has been carved-out.

Our customer holds leading positions in the prevention of recurrent respiratory and urinary tract infections, and is also active in the treatment of vascular diseases.

Challenge

Data Migration is always a tough topic in the Life Science industry. Our Life Science customer in Switzerland needed relevant quality documents after a carve-out from another Life Science company. The quality documents have been stored in a validated OpenText Content Server Platform.

The scope had been aligned, so it was clear what to extract and also the approach. The customer has decided to continue using the OpenText platform, so IseoSolutions has come up with a cloning approach.

Imagine an OpenText Content Server with almost 4 TB of data and 2 mio documents, constantly growing due to other parallel migrations into the source ECM. To add another challenge, the target DB was MS SQL Server.

“Imagine cloning a brain from an adult with complex processes running and implanting it into a kid while the brain is working and and still growing in content. That means changing the environment in a short time, reducing the size and content to exactly what is needed and keeping the brain alive. If you have that picture in your head - it reflects this challenging migration project with our Life Science customer..”

CUSTOMER'S GOAL

On Time

The system must be migrated on time to ensure the license agreements are met.

Clean up and migrate the data

The new system must include only agreed scope of the data: configuration, content and running Workflows. Also, the new system target database is MS SQL. It must be in addition ensured, that the source system is not changed.

Ensure integrity & validation

Perform the process of data and documents migration to ensure a validated system after data migration.

The new system must include only agreed scope of the data: configuration, content and running Workflows. Also, the new system target database is MS SQL. It must be in addition ensured, that the source system is not changed.

IMPLEMENTED SOLUTION

  • To meet the project goals, it has been decided to use an intermediate server for clean-up and database migration manipulations. reduced infrastructure has been set up, databases copied.

  • Clean-up of the content has been tested with test and also productive data to ensure the scope is met. Then, the database was migrated from Oracle to MS SQL using Microsoft tools.

  • The source system configuration included several database-dependent queries, which needed to be adjusted after the migration.

  • The target system was installed and, finally, the the cleaned-up database and the corresponding files has been been handed over and connected to the newly installed target system at customer`s premises.

IMPLEMENTED SOLUTION
